After Microsoft (MSFT) supposedly bombed its earning report, the stock is definitely taking a tumble in the after hours. It probably won’t stop there, stocks somewhat related to the company will probably take a little bit of a beating too. Since I could remember, many have turned to Microsoft as a guide for the overall economy of some sorts; however, why are people still expecting great things from the stale company?

It is no secret that Microsoft isn’t the power it was just a decade ago. Bill Gates isn’t even the richest man in the world anymore. Apple (APPL) dominates the whole music aspect and closing the gap in operating systems. Google (GOOG) is far and away ahead of Microsoft in the online search and whatever else online services there are. The HDDVD, which they backed, is basically dead, and they lost one of the hottest video game developers there is (Bungie - Halo). Speaking of video games, Microsoft had to fork out a billion dollars to fix things they couldn’t get right the first time with the XBOX 360.

Basically nobody is scared of Microsoft anymore. Instead of setting the trend, Microsoft is busy trying to catch up, so why do people continue to put so much importance on the stock? The stock has barely even moved price levels in years. Just my two cents.
