For years now all the talk has been on the huge growth occurring in China. The 2008 games were to bring about a revitalization of the once highly sought after jewel in the Far East. As we take look at the calender today, the Olympic Games are just around the corner.
Has China lived up to its hype?
It is one thing to hear different companies and plans on the growth, but what really count are the actual results. My fascination really excelled while following John Chow in his journey throughout China. Throughout his video diaries, it really seemed as though China was a city of the future. The only things missing were flying cars, although they came pretty close.
Nowadays almost everywhere you go, you are surrounded by skyscrapers. When darkness looms, suddenly it feels like
You can look in four directions as far as the eye can see, and you see nothing but spectacular high-rises. At night it looks like Las Vegas: All the buildings are lit up; they look like rocket ships going off. It looks like the Fourth of July. -
Almost every major corporation has some fancy looking operation, and each building alone is worth sightseeing. Thats my opinion.
I’m going to visit again in October. I have visited in 99,05,06,and 07. The crazy thing is between 05 and 07 the cities changed so much every year I went. A lot of things are being built and inflation is running rampant. I don’t know how long it can last, but the last ten years or so have been really amazing.
If and when the Chinese economy starts to slow down, I wonder how that will effect other countries.. such as the US
