StockTwits Desktop Review

September 13th, 2009 | Filed under: Reviews, ,

People have been asking what I think about the new StockTwits Desktop. I hadn’t tried it out until just the other day, so here we go…

At first overview, StockTwits resembles that of TweetDeck on steroids, and it was done on purpose. So if you are familiar with that program then you should pick up StockTwits Desktop in no time. Basically it is all about adding and arranging tabs and columns for a customized setup that meets your needs.

You can do the regular stuff like track your Twitter feed, replies and direct messages; however, now you track all this at the same time:

StockTwits Stream Options

StockTwits stream. The main stream of everything that shows up on StockTwits.

Specific user stream. Track what an individual is saying.

Forex and future streams. Track all forex and future messages.

Watch lists. Stream of all the symbols on your watch list.

Chart.ly. Stream of all chart.ly charts that have been posted.

RSS Feed. Stream of the feed you input.

News and stock specific news. Stream of news served by SkyGrid.

Other features include a StockTwits TV window, addition of groups, and an a built in web browser. Along with columns, you can also have tabs.

While there were a lot of new and unique features, what really stood out to me was the “exclusive StockTwits Desktop chat.” Basically anything you say within the application is posted solely in the program… unless you check the box that allows you to CC to Twitter. Perhaps StockTwits eventual plan to phase out their Twitter integration or at least focus more on their own community???

Overall, StockTwits Desktop doesn’t really have any faults; however, if you’re fairly new to trading, don’t really want so much information all at once, or have clutter OCD, then it will probably tend to get overwhelming at times. On the other hand, if you are a true StockTwits fan and outright finance junkie, then their desktop application will only enhance your experience that much more.

Best of all its free, so it doesn’t hurt to try it out.

Have you tried it out? What do you think of the application?
