In business, if you can predict the next trend before others do, then you can almost bank on making money. Whether it is starting a business or picking the sector and investing in it, spotting trends early will benefit your bank account. While it seems easy to do, how do you do it? How do you know what will be hot and what to do with it?
Richard Laermer has authored many books about trendspotting and marketing, which has gained him some notoriety. He is the CEO of veteran relations firm RLM PR, and host of nationally syndicated radio Unspun Radio. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of his latest creation, 2011 Trendspotting for the Next Decade.
As a so-called “businessman,” I was excited to see what this book had to say. Obviously any leg up on the competition would be good.
First off, the book alone is written as though you are listening to him speak, so that alone should keep you entertained. Also, supposedly lot of this book was written off his BlackBerry.
The main focus of this book is to teach you how to spot trends rather than fads. In other words, don’t waste your time within things that are not going to last. Learn how to dive into these trends, and then how to market them (he is a CEO of a marketing firm).
Laermer throws in many examples and antidotes in the book, so you can really see how these methods work and you are not just reading a list of things you should do.
2011 Trendspotting for the Next Decade, is definitly a very interesting and knowledegeable book you should pick up if you are looking to make a stamp on the business world in 2011 and beyond.
