Yes, you did read correctly. They are called personal shoppers. You give them your budget and what you are looking for. Then they do all the shopping for you, and, if you are good, tons of money can be made. With the holiday season right around the corner, it might be time for you to dive into this market.

You are probably wondering how can tons of money be made shopping for other people? Well, the average client that requires or likes to have a personal shopper is looking to throw down much more money then your average shopper and on a more frequent bases.

Typically the best personal shopper is someone who is good at finding deals, networking, and evaluating people’s need. Like all businesses, you have to make a name for yourself. Meaning that you have to start off grabbing the small not so much profitable gig. How will people trust you with their money if they are not sure you can make the rights purchases? Eventually you can work your way up the ladder, but of course it could take time.

As a personal shopper, you also act as a consultant. On a first meeting, there will be an interview between you and the client. They will express what they need and how much they want to spend, and in turn you will consult them on popular brands, hot items, or whatever might make the whole experience a success. Remember each client is potential for more or less business. Word of mouth is a very big asset.

Most shoppers charge a fixed rate per order plus a percentage of the total cost. For example, some of the smaller shoppers might charge $8 per order and then 10% off the total cost. Although those numbers might not seem amazing. Say a client wanted to buy a $2000 suit. Well you have now made $208. If that client likes what you have done, then it is almost 100% that they will return for repeat business. The more you build up your base, the more you can charge and the more profit that can be made. If you don’t think you can take on the business by yourself, then check with your local high end department stores and see if they have any openings. It is also a good idea to try and make deals with stores you might need to go frequently because they might give you a discount for bringing them business, and you can always use those discounts for yourself.

Shoppers also take on the role as an image consultant. People in high places that need to look good will need assistance, and as a personal shopper you should be able to fulfill that role. What is so good about this business, is that the experience can be altered and conducting in so many different ways. You just have to find the one that will work best for your area and expertise.
