While I was in India attending a wedding, I also set up a meeting with the founder or Samira Habitats to discuss possible business ventures. I did not really know what to expect, but I just wanted to see what options were opened to me.

Quick Overview of Samira Habitats

The overall goal of this company is strategc land investment. Located in the Mumbai area, they have land and buildings all over the city, and own a great portion of neighboring city, Alibag, which is one of their main investments. In Alibag they are essentially trying to create their own resort area and are sold out in most places.

So interested investors will purchase land and Samira Habitats will construct everything on and around the land. The real estate market is so hot right now, that land prices will just keep rising. For those that don’t know, Mumbai is very over-populated, and it is very hard to find any type of real estate. That is why Samira Habitats has made sure to lock in land in neighboring cities as well as key parts in Mumbai. On top of that, it takes a very long time to get to places because of congestion, so to try and relieve this problem Samira will build up the infrastructure to help shorten the travel time.

For example, it takes about 3 hours to drive from Mumbai to Alibag; however, Samira plans to build harbors for private boats (which Mumbai lacks) and promote boating. The travel time takes just about 20 minutes by water.

Thoughts on my Visit

We were going to get to Alibag by boat. I was pretty surprised to see that the only way we could get on the boat was at the Gateway of India, and there was only one loading dock. There were no harbors and all boats that were parked must wait out in the water.

Once we reached Alibag, it seemed totatlly different from Mumbai. It almost seemed like nobody else was on the island. I also got the feel that I was on some tropical island.

We proceeded to explore the island by car, and we visited all the current projects that the company is undergoing. As of right now they are still in early phases of construction, so I didn’t get to see much but just the foundation and lots of grass, but, nonetheless, it was quite and experience. The beach extremely clean also. I was told that lost of the construction should be done within 2 years, so I can’t wait to see how it looks then.

What is great about Samira Habitats is that they have scoured the world and tried to bring the best of everything into their construction. They have really tried to create a sense of luxury and paradise.

Final Outcome

To my surprise no deals to invest in India worked out, but instead Samira Habitats is looking to find some great investment opportunities in the United States, and the founder was interested to work with me here. We decided that we would look at possible investments in May. That is when he will be coming to the U.S. So I was really excited for that piece of news.

In the end, it was a great eye opener to investing in real estate, and even gave me some ideas for personal investments. I also created a new partnership. Now what to do till May?
