Put Money on your Palm

I want to turn your intention to the stock, Palm. I have never really been too fond of their company; however, today they introduced the first low-cost smart phone, Centro. Palm chief executive Ed Colligan said
“that by combining the size of a mass-market feature phone with advanced smart-phone capabilities, Palm hopes to appeal to mainstream phone users who are ready to upgrade to a more versatile device.”
The price will be set at $99.99 and the size is much smaller when compared to Palm’s Trio devices. Features of the phone include: instant messaging, personal and corporate e-mail support, media player, touch screen, full QWERTY keyboard and high-speed 3G data access. The phone will be released sometime in mid-October, but exclusively with Sprint-Nextel (a let down in my opinion). The main idea for this phone is to attract a much more broader demographic. Lot of people don’t want to spend $500+ on an IPhone or Blackberry. At $100 this phone becomes much more competitive.
Lately Palm has been sliding down the chain as the company’s profit fell 43 percent to $15.4 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended June 1. This phone is a much needed start to spark the company’s growth back in the right direction. Although I don’t feel this phone by itself will turn around the company, it is a good marker to start putting this company on your watch list.
As of close 9/27/07, Palm $16.40.
