Not Just a Picture

I thought I would just take a quick second to babble here. I think this might just be the year. The year that I finally get my very own digital camera. Throughout my entire life I have always had to share. I have a camera on my blackjack, but I find it all too annoying to use. I am one of those people that don’t always necessarily prefer 10 in 1 products. I like things simple.

Usually whenever I had to take pictures I would have to borrow my friends, relatives, or family’s camera, and on many gift-receiving occasions I would always pass over the thought of getting a digital camera. I like to look at pictures, and there are usually many different stories that different people will tie to a picture.

When I think about the revolution of cameras, it amazes me. Every so often when I look through family photos of my childhood I am required to get out a couple of boxes and albums, and I notice a trend. The older I get the less amount of print pictures there are, and it is not because I have been in less pictures, but as time as gone on people have slowly began to move to the digital age. Now if I want to look at more recent pictures I am required to get on a computer and browse away. I know that you can still order prints, but obviously the number of prints that exist have drastically gone down, but it doesn’t stop there. Now there is an obsession with digital picture frames. I can’t tell you the number of times I see digital picture frame filled with hundreds of pictures, and people are gathered around, bent over, and admiring the slide show.

Nonetheless, the older I get the more I begin to appreciate pictures and the new digital camera. Before when I first saw the picture of my friend trying to break a pinata with the opposite end of a hockey stick, I thought it was a pointless picture with no meaning, but as I look at it, after a over a decade, that one picture just doesn’t represent that one moment of time anymore, but all the memories associated with the location, the event, and my friend. The older I get the more I am aware that things will change. It won’t always be the same. Your friends won’t always be a 2 minute drive away, your family won’t always be sleeping down the hall, and the stock market won’t always be going up, but take pictures of your portfolio to remember it. So enjoy it now, and take pictures to enjoy it for life.

The digital camera allows people to take hundreds of pictures, and I think the time as come for me to finally get my very own because I want to remember everything.
