Holiday Shoppers Use Visa (V) And Mastercard (MA)

In today’s market, consumers don’t use checks and cash to make purchases. With talks of better than expected shopping numbers over the Thanksgiving shopping spree (Black Friday and Cyber Monday), retailers are not the only companies benefiting from the holiday time – credit card companies are too.

Generally (my analysis last year) I am a fan of Mastercard (MA); however, at $235 and rising a share, Visa (V) may be the only option for some traders. Pay attention this Thursdays when retailers start to report November sales reports.

If these numbers continue to hold and this holiday season does indeed become the reemergence of the consumer, then I like my chances with plastic. See charts below…

Mastercard – I like above $235. Target of $255 – see trend analysis.

Visa - I like above $73. Target of $80 – see trend analysis.
