9 Great Ways to Enter the Real Estate Game

Although I deal a lot with the stock market, my true ambitions lie with real estate. Obviously since I only have so much money myself, that dream is still in process. That being said, you never know when the best deal will hit you on the head, and that is why I always stay on the lookout. Well… that or I just like looking at pictures of houses.

Below are some of the best real estate related sites I have come across:

Rentometer - Whether you are looking for a place to rent for yourself or trying to find a competitive rental price for your property, Rentometer allows you to compare the price with others in the area.

Do It Yourself - Unless you are really fortunate, then you will have to make some additions and upgrades to your new property. Sometimes you can cut cost by doing it yourself. DIY has tons of information on how to do some tasks ranging from easy to hard. It is also a nice site to generate ideas of what can be done and for how much.

BestPlaces - Maybe you are interested in finding a home and/or a place to settle down for yourself. Maybe you want to see where people might go next. Either way, BestPlaces allows you to see and compare stats of different cities; such as cost of living, schools, crime, and home prices.

CyberHomes - I just started playing around with this site, and it looks promising. CyberHomes basically allows you to see what kind of home you could afford in different parts of the country. Simply select the area, bedrooms, and/or maximum price and it will show you a listing of what is available.  You can then proceed to track these areas and compare them with different parts of the country.

Zillow - Probably the most popular site on this list. With Zillow you can check the value of houses in an area. Users can also see what the house last sold at and appreciation value (also shows appreciation comparison). It is a great way to see what you could potentially ask for your property. If you are a buyer, then you can check if the seller is asking for too much.

Real Estate - The site name says it all. Basically a one stop shop for finding out information on dealing with real estate. A great resource for all types of buyers and sellers. Oh yeah and the domain name could probably go for a couple million if they wanted to, but that is a different story.

Trulia - Think of it as a social network for real estate goers. Besides just looking up listings, members can post and answer questions about a specific area. It gives you more insight into what other people are thinking about in the same area. You can also learn some stuff too. It is also a good way to network with individuals in the same area doing the same thing.

Homescape - A pretty simple, clean, and easy to use real estate search. You will also find some tips and advice on successfully dealing with real estate. You can also check what type of services and entertainment are in the area.

Overseas Property Blog - A great blog that takes a look at where some of the great buying opportunities are worldwide. After all, every country is not in a down market.

Any Recommendations

Are there any other real estate related sites that I should give a look?

Brett Shaw from Cyberhomes:

Thanks for the mention! If you’ve just started playing around with Cyberhomes.com then I’m sure you already know that there is a ton of information available. As a buyer, seller, or just a curious person, this site can help.

Along with a listing (seller) or just a home valuation you also get a full neigborhood analysis, including the percentage of households with children, demographics, median age of people, school information/ratings (with parental comments), average commute times, economic trends, crime rates and statistics, heat maps for most of these, and so much more!
