8 Ordinary People to Control Hedge Funds
Think you got what it takes to manage a hedge fund? Well apparently some nut hedge fund manager in the UK thinks so. He has apparently given 8 people a million dollars to try and successfully run a hedge fund, while outpacing the professionals. Yes, its makes for some great television, but the sick part is that the hedge fund manager is expecting a return on his money.
What is even more funny is that this all took place right before the markets really crashed. Here is a quick summary:
The experiment reveals the inner workings of a City trading floor. The money is supplied by hedge fund manager Lex van Dam: he wants to see if ordinary people can beat the professionals, and he expects a return on his investment too. Yet no-one foresees the financial crisis that lies ahead.
The eight ordinary people are given a million dollars, a fortnight of intensive training and two months to run their own hedge fund. Among them are an environmentalist, a soldier, a boxing promoter, an entrepreneur, a retired IT consultant, a vet, a student and a shopkeeper. How will they do? It will be interesting to find out.
Supposedly this has already been shown on BBC, but of course the series has made it to YouTube.
You think you can do better, then the 8? Now if only they did a U.S version.

As a outside person it will be interesting for me to see how a common ordinary fellows deal with this kind of huge money….
